This is the be-all and end-all guide on setting custom backgrounds and screensavers for Avaya J series phones.


The Basics

SET BACKGROUND_IMAGE "background_example1.jpg"  - Command used to add background to the system, multiple backgrounds can be added by using the following :

SET BACKGROUND_IMAGE "background_example1.jpg,background_example2.jpg"


SET BACKGROUND_IMAGE_DISPLAY "background_example1.jpg" - Command used to set an active background for the user's phone on reboot. 


SET BACKGROUND_IMAGE_SELECTABLE 0 - Command used to allow the user to change the background, 1= changeable by the user and 0= non-selectable/set by admin.


SET SCREENSAVER_IMAGE "screensaver_example1.jpg" - Command used to add screensaver to the system, multiple screensavers can be added by using the following:

SET SCREENSAVER_IMAGE "screensaver_example1.jpg,screensaver_example2.jpg"


SET SCREENSAVER_IMAGE_DISPLAY screensaver_example1.jpg - Command used to set an active screensaver for the user's phone on reboot.


SET SCREENSAVER_IMAGE_SELECTABLE 0 - Command used to allow the user to change the screensaver, 1= changeable by the user and 0= non-selectable/set by admin.


Requirements:

1. 320x240 resolution JPG image 16bit colour max (Below are the perfect examples but hopefully yours has a bit more artistic prowess)

2. Working system

3. Time- This might take a while so grab a hot cocoa


The Choice

You can either have the code for the background embedded into the 46xxsettings file or you can have an external document where the code is called. (Click on the relevant link below to go to that section.)


The Good Stuff

Step 1

Get the active "46xxsettings.txt" file- this can be in the "Primary" folder of the system or by searching for it through a browser.

Step 2

Open the file and go to the relevant part of the file (see below for model specific and system-wide).

Step 3

On a new line enter the relevant commands.

The same applies to set screensavers.

NOTE: DO NOT change anything else that may already be there, just press "Enter" on the model add your lines and be done, don't edit the GOTO or any other commands already there.


Step 4

Save the "46xxsettings.txt" file fack into the primary folder of the system.


Step 5

Reboot the phones and off to the races!
